Why kitchen prices vary so much
Two kitchens with the same floor area can have very different costs. One may use a simple straight run of standard cabinets while another includes an island, tall appliance housing, more drawers, specialist storage and premium worktops. The condition of the room also matters. A straightforward replacement in a well-prepared space is different from a renovation that needs layout changes and additional trade work.
This is why a broad headline price can be misleading. It may include cabinets but exclude worktops, appliances, preparation, disposal or fitting. When comparing prices, make sure you are comparing the same products and the same amount of work.
Cabinets and storage
Cabinet quantity and specification form a major part of the price. Look for exclusions and provisional allowances, and ask who is responsible for coordinating any work outside the quote.

Where to spend and where to save
Prioritise the parts you touch and use most often. Good hinges, drawer runners, a practical worktop and storage that suits your routine can be worth more than decorative extras. If the budget is tight, simplify the cabinet arrangement or choose a more affordable door and worktop before removing useful storage or essential fitting work.
Ask the designer to show the cost of alternatives rather than guessing. Changing one finish or appliance category may protect the layout you really need. Keep the long-term use of the kitchen in mind: the cheapest choice is not a saving if it is difficult to maintain or needs early replacement.
Budget for the whole room
Remember costs outside the visible cabinets. Flooring, decorating, lighting, window treatments and dining furniture may be part of the final room even if they are not in the kitchen quotation. If the project affects adjacent spaces, include those finishing costs in your overall plan.
Agree what is included before work begins and keep some budget uncommitted. A complete figure gives you better control than spending the full allowance on cabinets and discovering later that essential preparation or finishing still needs to be paid for.
